We all know that computers are becoming more and more central to life in today’s society. Pass IT On was set up when our founders, Martha and Sandy, recognised that many people with disabilities are excluded from the benefits of IT which most of us take for granted. We passionately believe that everyone should have the chance to access IT and the internet if they want.
For disabled people these benefits can be even greater – for example the internet allows someone who is housebound to manage their banking or do their shopping independently, and an accessible PC can allow someone who can’t use their arms to write a private letter or read an electronic book. Someone who can’t speak can use their computer as their voice. People with autism or learning disabilities can access online life skills programmes.
I think the service is fantastic. I couldn’t get a computer without Pass IT On because of cost restraints. I now have the freedom to enjoy games on a larger scale despite my visual problems.
The feedback we receive shows that having an accessible computer is a liberating and sometimes life-changing experience for our clients. It can also have a profoundly positive impact for their families and carers.
